What failed on it?

Anecdotally, I have seen many problems with the iBook G4 logic boards. Including my own, which was once declared dead... only to resurrect, but without USB working. Others I personally know have had other problems.

Apple hasn't been too gracious on taking care of its customers, which is unusual since they normally do a great job at service.

If you're really stuck, I might be able to look into getting one from the US. I'm not immediately familiar with the prices but I do figure I might get one or two boxes of goodies for Christmas and there's little reason I couldn't ask someone to slip a logic board in there, buried under the chocolate santas...

It's the video ram that failed. The mac still works, but I have a lot of green artifacts on screen which kinda prevent me from doing anything else than chatting on various instant messaging networks. It started with a line here, a line there, now they're pretty much everywhere (ha! I made a rhyme) and probably soon they'll just cover the screen completely and I won't be able to see anything. :)

Thanks for the offer. Unfortunately, in USA they're around the same price as here. And 'here' is a lot (think around 450 euros). The only place you can get them cheaper is eBay, and even there they're not really that cheap (~300 - 350 bucks).

Good news is that I found a broken motherboard for 50 bucks and a good soul will attempt a frankensteinesque move in which you start with two broken ones and you end up with one that works. Wish me luck. :)

Take photos and document. When it's over, make a long blog post of the details... and I'll submit to Slashdot. =]
